There are rumors of unsafe eclipse glasses and viewers
being sold. Your best bet is to get one that is made by an approved manufacturer,
or one of its distributors.

polycarbonate WITH gold coating.

Of course, you can always project the Sun’s image: https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/projection
If you are in that totality path, then the totality
(only!) is safe to look at without protection.
